Chocolate Nougat Cornflake Bars

Ingredients

- ½ pound marshmallows
- ½ tsp salt
- ⅝ cup shredded or flaked coconut
- ⅓ cup nuts, chopped
- 3 ½ cups cornflakes, whole wheat flakes, bran flakes or oven-toasted rice cereal
- 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate bits, melteddark chocolate chips1:1vegan if dairy-free

Combine butter or margarine, marshmallows, and salt in top of a double boiler and melt over boiling water, stirring as needed until smooth.

Combine coconut, nuts, and cereal in a large bowl.

Blend marshmallow mixture into cereal, stirring to coat evenly.

Press into a 9-inch square pan.

Spread melted chocolate evenly over top.

Chill for 1 hour.

Stir marshmallow mixture constantly to prevent sticking and ensure even melting.
Work quickly after adding marshmallow mixture to cereal before it cools and hardens.
