Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp hoisin sauce
- ½ tsp Chinese five-spice powder
- 1 clove garlic, chopped
- 1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and finely grated
- 8 oz pork tenderloin, trimmed and cut into thin strips
- 1 cup Tilda Pure Basmati rice
- 2 cups broccoli, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 2 scallions scallions, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1 small red onion, peeled and cut into thin wedges
- ¼ cup peas
Instructions
- 1
Mix hoisin sauce, five-spice powder, garlic, ginger, and pork in a large bowl. Marinate for at least 30 minutes and up to 2 hours.
- 2
Prepare rice according to package instructions. Keep warm.
- 3
Blanch broccoli in lightly salted boiling water for 2 minutes. Drain and plunge into ice water to stop cooking and retain color.
- 4
Heat oil in a large non-stick wok or frying pan and quickly scramble the egg. Remove and reserve.
- 5
Add scallion and red onion to the pan and stir-fry for 2 minutes.
- 6
Lift meat from marinade, shaking off excess. Reserve the marinade. Add meat to the wok and stir-fry for 4 minutes.
- 7
Add broccoli and reserved marinade to the pork mixture and stir-fry for 2 minutes until piping hot.
- 8
Break up reserved scrambled egg and mix with warm rice and peas.
- 9
Serve pork stir-fry spooned over the rice.
Tips
Marinate the pork for the full 2 hours if time allows for deeper flavor development.
Use day-old or cooled rice for best fried rice texture; warm fresh rice can become mushy.
Keep all ingredients prepped and within reach before starting to cook, as stir-frying moves quickly.
Good to Know
Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a wok or skillet with a splash of water to prevent drying.
Marinate pork up to 2 hours in advance. Prep vegetables and measure all ingredients up to 4 hours ahead.
Serve immediately while hot. Accompany with soy sauce or chili oil on the side.
Common Mistakes
Do not skip the ice water bath for broccoli to avoid overcooking and losing vibrant color.
Do not overcook the pork tenderloin to avoid toughness; 4 minutes stir-frying is sufficient.
Do not add rice while still hot and steaming to avoid clumping; use cooled or day-old rice.
