Homemade Garlic Salt with Adjustable Ratio

Make custom garlic salt by blending garlic granules and table salt to your preferred strength. This simple three-ingredient condiment lets you control sodium levels and tailor the garlic intensity. Use a funnel for even distribution, layer alternately, and store in a sealed jar for kitchen-made seasoning.
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoon garlic granules, or powdergarlic powder1:1similar flavorfiner texture
powder may clump
- 2 tablespoon table salt, with iodine, or lesskosher salt1:1may affect scoopability and density
custom ratio needed
- ¼ teaspoon corn starch, or arrowroot powder, optional
Instructions
- 1
Decide your salt-to-garlic ratio: 2:4 for less salty, 1:5 for very low sodium, or less than 1 tablespoon salt with enough garlic to reach 6 tablespoons total
- 2
Place a funnel on the jar and pour salt through it
- 3
Add garlic granules, then alternate salt and garlic layers based on your chosen ratio
- 4
Add corn starch or arrowroot if using
- 5
Stir thoroughly with a chopstick or butter knife until well combined
- 6
Seal the jar with a pour-top insert and lid
- 7
Shake well before each use
Tips
Layer salt and garlic alternately for better distribution rather than mixing all at once
Uneven distribution of layers is acceptable and will mix during shaking
Shake the jar well before use to redistribute ingredients
Good to Know
Airtight jar in cool, dry place. Shelf-stable indefinitely if corn starch included to prevent moisture absorption.
Make full batches and store for months. Prepare multiple jars with different salt-to-garlic ratios.
Common Mistakes
Do not skip the funnel to avoid uneven salt distribution at the bottom
Do not omit corn starch if high humidity storage is expected to avoid clumping
