Whole apples cored and sliced thin, dipped in a simple batter of flour, eggs, milk, and baking powder, then deep-fried until golden. Dusted with icing sugar and served hot with a dollop of Nutella. A carnival-style treat that transforms fresh fruit into crispy, indulgent fritters.
Ingredients
- 4 apples, peeled and cored
- 1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
- 3 eggs
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 1 glass milk
- ½ sachet baking powder
- 2 ¾ tbsp butter, melted and cooled
- oil, for frying
- icing sugar, to finish
- 3 ¼ oz Nutella
Instructions
- 1
Sift flour into a bowl and add eggs, sugar, milk, baking powder, and melted cooled butter. Whisk until smooth and lump-free.
- 2
Peel apples and use a coring tool to remove the stem and core while keeping the apple whole. Slice horizontally into thin rounds.
- 3
Dip each apple slice into batter, then place into a pan with plenty of very hot oil. Fry until consistently golden.
- 4
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on absorbent paper.
- 5
Dust with powdered sugar and serve hot, accompanied with a teaspoon of Nutella.
Tips
Ensure butter is melted and cooled before adding to batter to avoid curdling the eggs.
Slice apples as thin as possible for even cooking and maximum crispiness.
Use very hot oil and maintain temperature for consistently golden results.
Drain on absorbent paper to remove excess grease before serving.
Good to Know
Best served immediately while hot and crispy. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in a low oven.
Batter can be prepared up to 2 hours ahead and refrigerated. Apples should be sliced just before frying to prevent browning.
Serve immediately while hot, dusted with icing sugar and accompanied by a teaspoon of Nutella per portion.
Common Mistakes
Do not skip cooling melted butter before mixing into batter to avoid scrambling the eggs.
Do not add apple slices to insufficiently hot oil to avoid soggy, greasy results.
Do not leave fried apples in oil too long to avoid burning or over-darkening.
